Day 4: Bat Street's Back, Alright!

Hola, today Max is here to tell you all aBAT our day which started with... you guessed it BATS!! We had an early wake up call because we had to be on the road by 7:30am back to the Tirimbina Biological Reserve to check on our progress with our traps. but first we took a walk through the rainforest to explore all of its beauty. but even before that, we saw a sloth!

William said that it was a three toed sloth, and the difference between the two toed and the three toed sloth is in their hands, not their feet, and their face will look different. In the rainforest we saw a ton of cool things from an army of Army ants to even a few bats on a HUGE tree trunk. We also saw some poison dart frogs which were amazing, and we got to see the blue and red one which was so exciting.

Some bats William found on the trail!

After the walk we checked back on our bat poop traps that we set up yesterday. We used tweezers to to pick up any seeds that we could find and then took them to a classroom to look at them under a microscope. In the classroom we identified which types of seeds they were which could show us the different types of food that they eat.

William shows us black pepper leaves, a common food for bats!

After we said adios to the bats, we headed all the way across the country to the Southern Caribbean side of Costa Rica where we checked into our hotel and had some resting time and even went in the pool. Overall we had a wonderful day even though we had to leave the bats but there are more adventures to come in our beach filled day tomorrow!
